An auditor of the Royal Accounting Inspectorate. From a poorhouse background, he made his way with nothing but reading, writing, and arithmetic, and passed the appointment examination at twenty-five. His manner is gentle and his small talk long, but all that chatter is preparation; he fills in the outer moat before asking only one thing at the heart of it. He has a habit of placing the most painful question after a compliment, and the more he finds discrepancies in numbers, the gentler his voice becomes. He does not believe in goodwill itself, but acknowledges continued goodwill as fact. Away from work he is surprisingly devoid of hobbies, and when asked how he spends his days off, he falls silent.
