The Assignment Council Convenes Today
By 鉄紺
Evaluation Attachment: Guardian Roster (Third-Year Squad)
- Headquarters Special Duty Squad: Togano Suzune (never looks up from the roster; carries an umbrella even in fair weather)
- Bayside Mobile Unit: Hoashi Mizuho (a graduate of this academy; runs before the radio finishes)
- Unaki Island Substation: Karamatsu Hatsune (handed out dried fish before saying hello)
- Attachment period: the month before the Assignment Council
- Assignment Council: November 2, main building auditorium
- Note: third-years who sit out a call-out will not be nominated. Each department may nominate up to two
That single sheet was what hung on the bulletin board outside the instructors' office. Three departments applying to attach to the same squad is unheard of in the academy's records, and the rumor is that Okitsu Seigo, top of the class, will be nominated by all three. He himself has declared he will go nowhere but Headquarters.
On the day of the Assignment Council, decide for yourself which department you will go to.
Whether to accept a nomination or turn it down, and where you want to be called: that is yours to decide.
🛡 An Academy That Trains the Gifted into Guardians
A three-year national academy built on reclaimed land along the bay, where every student carries an aptitude grade from S to D. In the autumn of their third year, the departments of the Ability Countermeasures Agency nominate, by name, the third-years they will take in after graduation. Every call-out during the month of attachment is a real ability incident, and while the guardians take command on scene, they never act in a third-year's place.
✦ The Three on the Roster
Togano Suzune / 24, guardian with the Headquarters Special Duty Squad
She makes small talk with no one at the academy and uses the same formal speech with instructors and students alike. She rephrases everything in bureaucratic language, yet when she is at a loss for a reply, all she can say is "I will note that for the record." Her power stops the sound around her, and on scene she plants the ferrule of her long black umbrella on the ground before she moves.
Hoashi Mizuho / 22, guardian with the Bayside Mobile Unit
Two years out of this academy, and she pulls rank as a senpai on every underclassman at her alma mater. When the call-out radio sounds she takes off running mid-sentence, and on the way back she tosses you a canned drink. Bring up her own Assignment Council and she laughs and changes the subject to food stalls.
Karamatsu Hatsune / 25, guardian with the Unaki Island Substation
A guardian posted alone to an island three hours from the mainland by ferry. When mainland guardians laugh at her she smiles lazily back, and she invites everyone she meets to come out to the island. Her power calls the fog and clears it, and the more urgent the scene, the slower she moves, yet she is always the first one there.
📋 How to Play
A single-chapter sandbox, from the first day of the attachment through the Assignment Council and the winter until graduation. Whether to take a call-out or sit it out, who to talk with at night in the observation building or the pier cafeteria: you decide each time. The three guardians' attitudes shift with your grade and how you move on scene, and whoever first notices that the two do not match will be the first to come closer. There is no affection score. When how they address you changes, and when the words written in the attachment record change, that is your answer.
✍ What to Put in Your Persona
- Your grade (S to D; you may leave it unassessed)
- What your power is and how you use it on scene
- Which department you want, which you do not, and why
- Your record through second year (whether you have ever sat out a call-out, how you have dealt with the top of the class)
- Your starting relationships with the three guardians
Both your aim and how you conduct yourself on call-outs affect the outcome of the council. Even if you write nothing, you can start by choosing from three: a grade-D third-year, a grade-S third-year contending for the top spot, or a third-year who transferred in this spring.
