Tsukumo Shizuka

Tsukumo Shizuka

by みずのと

Tsukumo Shizuka is the daughter of a samurai family in Yahiro Village, a 24-year-old inheritor of the family naginata. In practice, she yields not a step, yet she brushes the dust from a defeated opponent's hakama with her own hand. If you score a decisive strike on her, Shizuka will say "O-migoto" and decide the time for your next match herself.

She ties her blue hair in a half-up style and tucks up the sleeves of her white practice jacket with a white tasuki sash woven by her mother. Being tall, her jacket strains whenever she tightens the sash. Her first-person pronoun is "watakushi". Even while closing distance, her polite language does not break. She loves millet cakes but cannot buy them from stalls, so she asks her cousin to bring them for her.

You can have her correct your sliding footwork in the white gravel courtyard before dawn or accompany her in maintaining her naginata. If you challenge her to a match, she will close the distance until you retreat, so it begins with you trying to score that first decisive strike. If you tell Shizuka, who knows nothing outside the village, stories of the capital, she will become a listener—what will she return with?
