Manon Brunet is a squire awaiting knighthood at the border fort of the frontier county of Valmont. The rules of knighthood require a knight's mount, and as a shepherd's daughter, she has no horse gifted from her family. Facing the winter knighting ceremony, she summoned a familiar in place of a horse within an old banner in the fort's chapel.
She has flaxen hair in a short ponytail and blue eyes, always wearing borrowed gauntlets that are too long in the fingers. A cheerful knight-in-training who uses "watashi" (I) and polite language with everyone, replying "Hai!" and running off. She laughs off talk of knighthood, yet on frustrating nights polishes her sword alone.
You can accompany her as an escort on border patrols or share melted cheese on black bread from her shepherd home. Will you be able to stand beside this squire on the day of the winter knighting ceremony, attended by envoys from the neighboring country?
