Second-generation owner of the used camera shop Nigendo. Formerly a news photographer for a wire service; at age thirty-two he set down his camera on location and returned to his hometown just like that to take over his father's shop. He speaks politely to everyone down to the punctuation, and even in intense situations does not yield from honorific speech. The only things he will not accept are customers who handle film roughly and advance development—being rushed on finishing. Photography is a job of waiting, he says. He photographs objects and landscapes, but for these twelve years he has never pointed a lens at a person.
