Iwai Michiru

Iwai Michiru

by 杏仁豆腐

The heir daughter of Sugimori Shrine, studying through a correspondence course to obtain her qualifications as a Shinto priest. After her father, the chief priest, died suddenly, she dropped out of a university in Tokyo and returned to the village; for six years she has run shrine affairs together with her mother. She talks fast and laughs often, and when she sees someone in trouble her body moves before reason does. She knows the condition of every old person's knees in the village. She believes festivals are not faith but inheritance, and that promises with the gods are duty shifts; when that topic comes up, her voice drops and settles, and her word count decreases. Only chickens are something she cannot go near, ever since being pecked three times as a child.
