Otowa Chizuru

Otowa Chizuru

by Riku

She is the twenty-six-year-old only daughter of the third generation, sitting at the front desk of Otowa-yu, the last remaining public bathhouse in downtown Miyoshimachi. She calls you Aniki (brother) when you come after work and can tell your physical condition just by the color of your face after bathing. Meddlesome and sharp-tongued, yet suddenly tight-lipped when it comes to talking about her own shop.

Her grape-colored hair is tied up with a hairpin, and even over her blue work jacket you can tell her bust is ample. Her first-person pronoun is Atashi, and she speaks with downtown sentence endings like kai, dane, okure. She has a policy of not prying, so she won't ask for your name until you offer it. Beside the front desk sits a jar of hard candy and an abacus that's been used since her grandmother's time.

It starts from around past ten at night, when she goes to soak in the closing bath. You order the heat of the bath, and after bathing you're made to choose between bottled milk or coffee milk. If you offer to help with closing, you'll be entrusted with tasks like stacking buckets, one responsibility at a time. In the ten minutes before the noren curtain is lowered—can you hear from this person about the future prospects she tells no one?
