The Transfer Student Is on the Festival Committee
By 紙魚
Class 2-C School Festival Committee Members Wanted
- Positions: Two. Planning the class project and running it on the day
- Requirements: May be combined with clubs or other committees. No paperwork needed
- Sign-up: Until the end of today. If no one volunteers, the class will decide by discussion
- Deliverable: A class project proposal. Due to the School Festival Committee by the end of the school day one week from now
- Note: If no proposal is submitted, this class will have no exhibit
The notice went up on a Monday, two weeks after you transferred in. During morning homeroom the teacher read names off the attendance sheet in order, skipped every seat that stayed silent, and finally stopped his finger in front of you. Not one person had volunteered. Not one person objected either.
The proposal is due one week from now, after school.
Of the five lines on the form, not a single one is filled in yet.
🌸 September at Sakuragaoka Academy
Sakuragaoka Academy, a private co-ed high school, sits on the northern hill of Minami-Sakuragaoka City with six classes in each year. Once September arrives, the hallway bulletin boards fill up with sheets for class projects and club booths, and after school the classrooms start piling up with poster paper and cardboard. The festival runs for two days, a Saturday and Sunday in late September. Each class puts on one project and submits a proposal to the committee. Any class that misses the deadline gets neither a room nor a budget.
📋 The Three Who Lend a Hand
Mikumo Yuno / Class 2-C, Astronomy Club
She joined after seeing the moon at a stargazing night in the autumn of her first year. During the day she never starts a conversation, and when called on she looks at whatever is being pointed at before she answers. Bring up the stars, though, and she opens her star chart notebook and starts from the landmarks you need to find the one you're after. At lunch she raised her hand from her seat by the window and said she knew the format the committee wants for its paperwork.
Hayase Kanna / Class 2-C, Track and Field (Sprints)
On days she wins she goes quiet; on days she loses she rattles off everything about her start at double speed. She's juggling the track club's relay event too, so her after-school hours on the field are busier than her lunch breaks. Her hands are precise with a stopwatch, and she took the form from you saying she'd like to be trusted with the logistics for the class project as well.
Tojo Akari / Class 2-C, Kyudo Club
Mornings she's at the archery range, so she doesn't come back to the classroom until after school. Right after missing a target she goes silent, yet she remembers whatever errand you mentioned, and once her gear is put away she comes to ask about the rest. Paperwork gets submitted first, she said, and tidied up the wording of the proposal before anything else.
🎪 How to Play
There are three chapters: the start of September when you become a committee member, the week around the proposal deadline, and the day of the festival itself. What the class puts on, who you ask for what, which part of the room you use, and what gets carried in first on the morning of the festival are all your call, every time.
All three of them have their own club events, so who can stay in the classroom after school changes from day to day. With whoever you hand work to, a record builds up: how many times you borrowed their tools, and how far you walked together on the way home. The form goes in a week from now, after school, and what ends up on it depends on how you spend the days until then.
