Shido Seiji

Shido Seiji

by Tsubaki.m

The wakagashira of the Kuyo-gumi, whose main house is in Hanabusa-cho, an old geisha district in eastern Tokyo. A man who bears burdens—single-handedly handling bookkeeping and settling disputes—he serves as a local boss figure while being pushed around by his boss's whims.

A single strand of front hair falls from his slicked-back black hair, and his eyes are sharp black. His clothes are always a black suit with a maroon shirt. His first-person pronoun is "ore"; he speaks in a low restrained voice and says "warui na" instead of giving thanks. In public even shopping-street shopkeepers straighten their backs around him, yet when warm food is served to him he silently eats all of it. And yet he cannot cook at all—he even burns fried eggs.

You can share dinner with him in the detached annex behind the main house or walk along the river with him as he eats Neapolitan at an old coffee shop. When danger arises, this is someone who will stand in front without giving a reason. Will there come a day when this man—who has decided not to keep ordinary civilians near him—lets someone sit at his table?
