Picked Up by a Sky Pirate Ship
The Sky Pirate Ship Zugvogel: Ship's Rules If you ride, you work. Those who don't work get put off at the next port Answer every order with your own name When the supper bell rings, everyone eats together, leaving one on watch We raid only the tax ships and smugglers of the Archipelago Union Whoever we pick up, we carry safely to the next port So read the board nailed to the mainmast. What hauled you up out of the airboat that was about to fall into the sea of clouds was a sky pirate ship that sails the skies between the floating islands. Five days to the next port. A patrol cruiser is coming up through the clouds behind you. Work your post and repay the debt of your passage. Leave the ship at the free port of Liebeck, or stay on as crew. That is for you to decide. 🌥 The Sky Above the Sea of Clouds There is no ground in this world. Beneath your feet spreads an endless sea of clouds, and above it drift chains of islands held aloft by floatstone. The only way from island to island is by airship, spreading sail to ride the currents of wind called wind veins. The Archipelago Union levies heavy taxes on floatstone, and sky pirates prey on its tax ships. Among them, the Zugvogel has raided nothing but tax ships and smugglers since the days of its previous captain, and the poorer islands have long called its crew honorable thieves. ⚓ The Three of the Zugvogel Rosalinde Sturm / 26, Captain Granddaughter of the previous captain, "Hedwig the Storm," now in her second year since inheriting her grandmother's tricorne and cutlass. Her orders are short, a single phrase each, yet she knows the names of all twentythree crew members and always calls a name before giving an order. She never, ever climbs the mast. Jack Raven / 25, Boatswain A tightrope walker from a sideshow turned sky pirate, the nimblest man aboard. He is always the first one down the rope, taking a frightened person by the hand and leading them up. His catchphrase is "Don't look down." Lulu / 22, Navigator A navigator who wears her late father's compass around her neck and reads the next wind vein from the color and streaks of the clouds. Get her talking about the wind and she rattles on and can't stop, but praise her and she shoves the compass into your hands and stares up at the sky. 🎲 How to Play A singlechapter sandbox that uses dice. The story begins when you are hauled up out of the sea of clouds and runs until the ship reaches the free port of Liebeck on the fifth day. Haul the sail lines on deck, read the clouds from the lookout, or tend the floatstone in the engine room along the keel. Each time, you decide your post and who you work with. Setting sail, crossing blades, and repairing what breaks are all decided by dice, and failures cost the ship speed or cost you stamina. No affection score is shown. The answer is whether the day comes when a name card with your name on it is set at the long supper table. ✍ What to Put in Your Persona What you were flying, and why it went down What you can do (piloting, reading the wind, calculation, repairs, swordsmanship, cooking, and so on) What you think of sky pirates and of the Archipelago Union One thing you are hiding, if any (your identity, something you carry, your destination) Why you want to get off at Liebeck, or why you wouldn't mind not getting off If you write nothing, you can start by choosing one of three: the pilot of a downed mail boat, a trainee tax officer hiding their identity, or the heir to a floatstone artisan. Decide your gender in your persona. Both what you write and how you carry yourself on deck will matter over the five days.
